Afghanistan secures $8.2bn in aid

Afghanistan has secured promises from donor nations of $8.2bn (£4.5bn) in aid over the next three years.

More than half the money has been promised for 2004, said Finance Minister Ashraf Ghani.

The war torn country also agreed to work hard to stamp out drug production during a meeting with donors in Berlin.

"Like terrorism, [drugs] is a global menace and requires cooperation and global support, said Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah.
